Hello,

It’s been awhile since I last wrote. Instead of boring you with mundane news I prefer to wait till I have something exciting to say.

I’ve been very busy singing and rehearsing. For what you ask? Well I’m pleased to announce that I will be embarking on my own tour in Scotland this July aptly named ‘Susan Boyle In Concert’.

This is the first year that I feel I can hold my own on a stage for the full time and that I will be able to please an audience and my fans. So I will be performing on 7 nights in Scotland as a tester to see if I enjoy it. The venues chosen are intimate and steeped in Scottish history.
Fingers crossed it will all go well and then as they say the world is my oyster and I can look in 2014 to do more, well that’s the plan anyway.

One of the reasons I chose Scotland was to say thank you to my fellow Scots for their unwavering support over the past four years. The loyalty and kindness shown to me has been overwhelming, so now it’s my turn to give something back.

I hope that you all will come and watch the shows and more importantly enjoy them. This is a big step for me but one that I’m very excited about. There will be a variety of music and I’ll have my own band, plus a few surprises on the night.

I look forward to seeing the red scarves in the audience! As a special treat for my fans, please come back tomorrow evening (Thursday) when I will give you a password so you can order specially held fan tickets. They are limited in numbers and on a first come first serve basis, limited to four per person but as I would love you to join me on this tour I felt it was the least I could do.

I hope you are as excited as I am.

A Message From Susan

Hello,

Well I’ve had a busy week on my first movie set in the Cotswolds and I have to say I’m having the time of my life. Who’d have thought I’d be in a movie? The Christmas Candle is a period film and I am really enjoying dressing up in the Victorian outfits, I rather like having a bustle!

It’s been a real experience and I’m working with wonderful actors and actresses who are pros and I’m learning so much from them as this is all so new to me. The crew are wonderful and incredibly patient with me the novice! Filming is long but an incredibly interesting process and I can say I have been bitten by the acting bug.

There was speculation that I was making a cameo appearance but I have a proper character in the film and acting is a really great experience.
For me a hardy Scot, the cold country weather is practically balmy but even I have had days where I have feet warmers in my boots, a hot water bottle under my costume, long johns and tights in a bid to keep warm. Luckily we’ve been blessed with sun and blue sky which has helped.

I have my own winnebago with my name on the door! I feel like a proper professional actor, let me tell you. The wardrobe has various outfits for my character and I have a very necessary kettle for my cups of tea between scenes. I’m also performing a song for the movie with my on screen husband. He’s been helping me learn the ropes with acting and I’ve been helping him with the singing! It’s a good screen marriage.

On Friday we had the day off so I came down to London to visit the record label and discuss album five. Sorry folks, you’re going to have to keep guessing a wee bit longer. Surprise is good!

Then with an afternoon free I went to Harrods to have a little look around, buy some perfume and a few Easter gifts for family. It’s a wonderful experience browsing round the food halls and so vast that in the couple of hours we were there we didn’t even get off of the ground floor.

After a lovely dinner with my manager and his wife, we then drove back to the Cotswolds ready for filming over the weekend, buoyant and happy from a wonderful day off that was positive and exciting for the future of my singing career.

This will be my last full week on set and although I’m looking forward to returning home I will most definitely miss the wonderful team on The Christmas Candle. It’s been great being a part of the tight knit community, with many a giggle and story shared.

I would definitely like to continue with an acting career alongside my singing career so fingers crossed this debut goes well and who knows maybe Hollywood will come chapping on my door.

A Message From Susan

Hello,

Firstly I want to wish you all a belated Happy New Year. I hope you all had a great Christmas with your friends and family and 2013 has been good to you all so far.

Sorry that it has been awhile since I updated you on all my news but it has been rather busy over the past few weeks, so here’s a little update from me now.

Christmas and New year were great and I enjoyed my time with the family and also seeing friends. It is the reason I love Blackburn, I can go home and just relax as normal. Sometimes it feels like nothing has changed.

I’d like to thank all of you for the cards and gifts that you sent me. I wish I could respond to each and everyone of you and I do try but I wanted you to know how grateful I am for the time and effort that you spend spoiling me. I have some of the best fans in the world and I know I’m incredibly lucky. So thank you.

After Christmas I went away to Tenerife for a few days for some much needed sun. So whilst the rest of the UK was in minus temperatures and struggling with snow I was happy in the warmth, sunning myself by the pool! It was a great little break and the relaxing and pampering is just what we all needed after a busy few months.

Landing back in the UK was a bit of a shock to the system, cold and snowy but thankfully we were landing in London as on the Sunday I was taking to the O2 stage with none other than my idol Donny Osmond.

It was great fun singing with him and a good reason to return to the cold, because I would have happily stayed in the sun if I wasn’t returning for him!

To say it was an experience was an understatement, in fact I’ll let you into a funny little story.

We rehearsed our songs and I was scheduled to perform in the second half of the show. So once rehearsal had finished we spent some time back at the hotel and killing time before going back to the O2 to get ready for the performance.

I was sitting in the dressing room with rollers in my hair having just finished having my make up done, in my dressing gown, when suddenly there was a chap on the door. It was a member of production telling me to get to the stage. Cue mass panic, the fastest outfit change known to mankind and a marathon run down the long corridors of the O2 to get to the stage. As we were running in convoy the rollers were being pulled out and the last nail painted. It was hilarious!

What had happened was my performance had been changed to the first half but unfortunately I didn’t know as the message wasn’t passed on. That’s why when poor Donny called me and said “Please welcome Susan Boyle”, well I was in the dressing room frantically trying to get my frock on and run in heels and get to the stage. Donny the most professional man I know handled it perfectly and we had a good laugh once we came off stage.

I think the opening notes were a bit breathy because, well, I was out of breath! I still chuckle now when I think about it. It was like something out of a comedy sketch.

After the performance with Donny, I was off to LA to take part in a song for Miracle Whip and their ‘Keep An Open Mouth campaign’. It was all a bit of fun and a giggle to be taking part. It was also fun to sing alongside people like Lance Bass and the Village People. I had a great time and it’s not everyday you can say you introduced an N’Sync boy to a proper pot of tea!

January was definitely the month of going from hot to cold to hot to cold! I left the warmth of LA and headed straight back to Scotland and it’s sub zero temperatures!

Once back I started trying to think of ideas for album 5 and thinking about which songs I’d like to feature on this album! I’m not giving anything away just yet. It’s good to have a few surprises!

Last Friday, I was able to sing with Donny again, this time in my homeland of Scotland. I was unbelievably proud to sing at the SECC in Glasgow. It brought back memories, because as a teenager, I skipped school and went to see Donny in Glasgow. I can’t tell you how much trouble I was in with my parents when I returned! Here decades later, I am performing with him on stage to the Glaswegians! The most honest audience in the world. It was [jam] fantastic!

After my performance, I got Donny back on stage to give him a little gift to say thank you for inviting me to be a part of his UK tour. He is now the proud owner of a Glasgow tartan scarf, some Scottish gifts that everyman should have and also a Boyle tartan tie! That’s right, I have my own tartan now and it’s in full production.
What meant so much to me was that for the second half of the show Donny wore my Boyle tartan tie. It suited him!.

I will try and keep you up to date more frequently. I am busy these days so bear with me. Just because I don’t write doesn’t mean I have forgotten you all! I haven’t and wouldn’t!

I shall try and keep you all up to date with my adventures! There will be plenty of them in 2013 and I can’t wait. ‘Bring It On’ as I say!

Personal Message from Susan

Before I give you an update on my week I firstly want to say thank you to all of you who bought my album. I really appreciate your support and I hope you enjoyed this album as much as the other three. I’m immensely proud of this album and hope you are as well.

It’s been another great week for me. I’ve been very busy with this new album and it has been a lot of fun.

Last week I was able to meet some wonderful fans at Glasgow and Edinburgh when I went to HMV to do some album signings. I am not the fastest writer in the world but I certainly learnt how to pick up the pace a bit. It was great being able to meet people and sign albums and also have pictures with them all. It was a fun few hours and I was pleased to be able to do it in my home country. There were people of all ages who turned up on the day and some very thoughtful children who were thinking ahead and buying Christmas presents for family.

On Sunday I invited friends and family to a party to celebrate my new album and also to say thank you to them all for their unwavering support. My friends have been so very supportive of everything I have done over the past few years and it was a good excuse to hold a party. I enjoyed my 50th so much I wanted to recreate that so held it at the lovely Houston House Hotel in Uphall again and it was a splendid evening.

We had a band, beautiful sit down dinner and I was honoured that the Lisbon Lions wanted to attend, being such a huge Celtics fan I was over the moon.
It was a really fun evening, lots of dancing and laughter and we all had a great time, which was the whole point of the evening.

Monday was a nice quiet day before heading down to London on Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning I met with Steve Wright and recorded an interview with him for his BBC Radio 2 show before heading to Parsons Green for a photo shoot and interview for Celebs on Sunday Magazine in the Sunday Mirror. I’m not going to give too much away but it was a burst of Christmas spirit that was much needed. Be sure to read it when it comes out on the 9th December.

On Wednesday I flew over to Holland to perform Somewhere Over The Rainbow on ‘The TV Show’ which airs this Sunday. I also did a couple of interviews for Belgium TV and a print interview with a Dutch newspaper.

It’s been a really enjoyable week and I’ve had a wonderful time meeting so many different people and spending time with the people who mean the most to me.

I for one can’t wait to see what next week brings….

Susan Boyle ‘Standing Ovation’ Track by Track interview

Read Susan’s track by track interview about her album ‘Standing Ovation’ which is out now.

Somewhere Over The Rainbow
It’s best known from the film Wizard of Oz. It’s a very nostalgic song. I felt it was quite a romantic song, wishing you were someone else. It relates to my life because for years I wished I was living a different life. That I could escape the life I was living. It didn’t happen overnight and I had to work hard to make the changes but change it I did. All dreams can come true if you really want them to. My dream of singing professionally came true so it resonates with my life.

The Winner Takes It All
This song was made famous by Abba. It’s actually a very sad song and talks about abandonment. There were times in my life where I thought people had abandoned me, some did by not by choice but because of nature. The last few years this has turned on it’s head and I feel like a winner, so the winner takes it all!

Send In The Clowns
This is a haunting song, chilling. I found it quite a reflective piece. I felt like I’d entered another world when I was performing it. There’s something so eerie about this song to me. I can’t express it in words but at the same time it is emotive and I’m glad it made it on to the album.

Music Of The Night featuring Michael Crawford
This song is from Phantom of the opera, I fell under the spell of this song when I was performing it. It’s magical. Doing a duet with Michael was wonderful. I’m so glad he sung on the album. This was his song and I felt rather honoured to be singing with him on this track. We didn’t perform in the studio together, we both lay our parts down separately. I was a little disappointed but schedules don’t always work together well especially with someone as busy as Mr Crawford. I hope to meet him soon though.

Bring Him Home
This is a very powerful piece from Les Mis. It’s about a father wanting his son to come home unscathed and unharmed. There’s a lot of parents who would say that about their kids nowadays but in a totally different social setting to the one that was originally written about for Les Mis. I think that is part of the beauty of this song. It transcends the generations. Bring Him Home is personal to me. It’s one I enjoyed singing this song and pleased it made it to the final track list on the album.

Memory
Memory from Cats. This is a great song, from a wonderful musical. Recording this song was challenging it took me back three years to performing with Elaine. I enjoyed singing it, there’s not much more I can say about it.

As Long As He Needs Me
Ahh this one is from the musical Oliver. This speaks for itself really- as long as anybody needs me I’ll be busy recording albums and hopefully making people happy with my music! It’s another track I enjoyed working on.

All I Ask Of You featuring Donny Osmond
This song was a real challenge because I recorded it with him in London on the first day we worked together. I was so nervous that he would think I wasn’t good enough or regret his decision to duet that I was really nervous. I thought I’d fluff my lines or have a total mind blank. It’s nerve wracking enough for anyone who meets there idol not to go completely mute and shy but having to work and sing I just kept thinking ‘please Susan, don’t mess this up’. I put a lot of extra pressure on myself but I also think it helped me to concentrate. I never thought for a second I’d be singing with someone I’d admired since my teens. Being with him in the studio was actually great fun and we had a great laugh. Good chemistry, he’s wonderful to work with and has a wicked sense of humour.

Out Here On My Own
Well this is the song that is so apt for my old life. I was totally out on my own. Very few friends, taunted and bullied at school. Cigarettes stubbed out on my arms. This is the theme tune to my childhood! It was a hard song. It brought back a lot of memories but it was also very cathartic and helped me realise that I have achieved so much in a short space of time and it’s time to move on and let those scars from childhood heal. I’ve forgiven the people who tormented me. They still live around and about Blackburn and it’s not healthy to hold grudges now is it.

You’ll Never Walk Alone
This is a great song for the album, not only because I love it but because it’s the anthem for my favourite football club Celtics. I was lucky enough to perform this is in the summer to 60,000 people in the stadium. No one at that point knew that it was going to be on the album bar my team so it was extra special for me. At least this ensures that the album will be a Celtics favourite… Who knows they could pop it into the gift shop! Kidding of course….

This Is The Moment featuring Donny Osmond
This song found its way on to the album after Donny’s wife suggested we perform this together. We had a real giggle performing this in the studio. As I said before it was great working with Donny, a real honour and by the time we got round to recording this in the studio I was less nervous and enjoying myself immensely.

Susan is very fond of musicals and was excited to get the chance to record some of her favourite songs from the shows that she knows and loves. The album features many classic songs from the stage including, ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ (taken from The Wizard of Oz) and ‘Winner takes It All’. The album also gave Susan the chance to sing some incredible duets with the likes of Michael Crawford and her idol, Donny Osmond.

Hello,

It’s been a busy and exciting week promoting my latest album, ‘Standing Ovation’, but it’s been great fun and I’d like to share some highlights with you.

Last Saturday I was lucky enough to perform on the National Lottery Show, performing Winner Takes It All.

On Sunday morning it was off to New York to launch my fourth album Standing Ovation.
We arrived at midday and it was lovely to see the familiar faces and red scarves, the flowers they gave me were beautiful.
On Sunday afternoon I went for a walk around Central Park and popped into FAO Schwarz to see the ‘Big Piano’ and then ventured down to Times Square where we went to Toys R Us to buy christmas gifts.

Monday morning, we got up very early to visit The Today Show. It was great to go back to familiar surroundings to perform The Winner Takes It All from the album. When I was in the studio I got the opportunity to meet Robert De Niro. Fantastic! I shook hands with an Oscar winner.
On Monday afternoon I finally managed to go on a horse and carriage ride. I’ve wanted to do this for awhile and on a beautiful, warm, sunny New York afternoon Carl from Ireland and his horse Marchello took us on a lovely trip around the park. It was a perfect way to relax and Lorraine, Nic and Michelle all enjoyed taking a wee bit of a rest as well.
Then I got the chance to visit Tiffany’s on Fifth Avenue and buy some special Christmas gifts for some special people.
Tuesday was back to The View to perform again, it was lovely to see all the ladies again. They are so friendly and welcoming.
Tuesday evening I saw my old pal Piers Morgan again at his CNN show. It was great to have a catch up and hear all his news. He was smarting that I’d said Donny Osmond was my favourite man and teased me about it! Well Donny has been my idol since I was thirteen!
Wednesday, I visited Fox & Friends as well as Sirius Radio, where I got to be a DJ and put my own playlist together. That was great fun and I enjoyed picking out my favourite tracks for my own show.
After finishing the work I got the chance to go to Bloomingdales and do some more shopping. This time it was for myself. I got the chance to buy some lovely clothes and I had so much fun being spoilt by the shop assistants who couldn’t do enough. That is definitely the way to shop!
My team and I then went out for a lovely lunch in New York, La Bonne Soupe on West 55th Street. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone visiting in New York. It was a fantastic restaurant and the food was delicious.
A stroll back to the hotel and there was just enough time to pack up the car and head back to the airport for the flight back to the UK, via duty free of course!

As the saying goes there’s no rest for the wicked and it was straight back to work going to perform on Daybreak and also getting ready for my performance on Children In Need tonight I’m very excited to be returning to this show as it’s such a great cause and also because it’s the first time the UK will hear Somewhere Over The Rainbow, which I love singing. This is one of my favourites.

My album is out on Monday the 19th in the UK and there is still more TV, interviews and promo work to do, but as I keep saying I’m enjoying it a lot more this year and Bring it on! I hope you all enjoy the album.
