Carmen Nebel Show - Germany

Saturday the 6th of March was a truly wonderful experience for Susan. She appeared as special guest on Germany’s Carmen Nebel show. The show broadcasts six times in each year in different locations in Germany. This time around Leipzig was the location.

Susan arrived at 17.30 at the huge exhibition centre that was to be the show’s home for the day in very good spirits having enjoyed a private plane ride from Edinburgh. It was sheer good fortune that Susan had arrived at all, due to a favourable gap in the weather. Her manager had been delayed in a snow storm in Munich and her makeup artist had missed her connection in Munich for the same reason. Fortunately, Susan’s plane had taken off from Edinburgh and flown directly to Leipzig. Although Leipzig had been treated to six inches of snow overnight, the skies were clear and the snow had stopped, making landing at Leipzig Airport possible.

Prior to her arrival, her team had been chatting with The Priests who were also appearing on the same show. Fathers Martin, Eugene and David had expressed an interest in meeting Susan. As soon as she arrived Susan walked around to their dressing room and met the group – possibly the nicest men in show business. They chatted for some time, each expressing appreciation for the other.

Susan then went off for a sound check after which she returned to her dressing room for a ham sandwich and a cup of tea. Makeup began at 18.30. Because Susan’s makeup artist had been delayed for so long, she had to turn around and return to London on the next available flight. So the show very kindly offered one of their in house makeup artists – a lovely lady called Nadine, who did a beautiful job. Susan wore her rouge noir layered dress, designed by Suzanne Neville, and wine coloured LK Bennett shoes.

Susan’s performance slot was at 20.50. It was agreed by everyone who travels with Susan that this was undoubtedly her best performance ever. The stage treatment that the show had dreamed up was amazing – a big choir and orchestra including guitarist, timpani, symbols, the lot! The lighting was second to none and Susan sang like a songbird. Immediately her performance ended she was given a fantastic ovation by the crowd. The hostess, Carmen, joined Susan on stage to thank her for being such a special guest and presented her with a bouquet of pink and white roses. Susan loved the bouquet but kindly decided to give them to a member of her team as a present.

After a quick change and fond farewells, Susan jumped into a people carrier to return to Leipzig airfield to fly straight back to Edinburgh and on to Blackburn.

“It was a very quick visit,” Susan stated after the show, “But worth it. What a lovely show – such kind people. And the audience were great. Can I come back to Germany again?!” The answer was, of course, a resounding YES!

Carmen Nebel was a live show and Susan’s performance can be viewed online.

As promised yesterday, we have some more Japanese related news. We can now reveal that Susan is planning an extremely rare guest appearance with the famous Yomiyuri Nippon Orchestra in Japan on April 1st 2010. She was invited by the orchestra to guest at their planned spectacular concert at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo to a capacity crowd of up to ten thousand people.

Susan will be arriving in Japan a few days ahead of the performance where she will spend some time relaxing and rehearsing with the 80 strong Orchestra. Although it is a little too early to confirm the song list, an early indicator is that she will likely sing among others I Dreamed A Dream and Wings To Fly.

Today Susan returned to Rokstone Studios in Parsons Green S/W London. The place holds special memories for Susan as she recorded her album there with producer Steve Mac.

Susan was there today to record a special performance of the song Wings To Fly which appears as an extra track on the Japanese release of the I Dreamed A Dream album. The song is a rendition of an original by a 1970s Japanese folk band. The song is now an anthem for Japanese graduates as they leave college.

After filming a performance of the track, which will be aired in part in Japan, Susan answered some questions for a major Japanese newspaper and had some photos taken while she was interviewed. She then caught an early afternoon flight back to Blackburn where she is now recharging her batteries and having a few days well earned rest.

More Japanese news tomorrow!!

Vivement Dimanche - Paris

Susan is on her way home from another great trip! After her stunning performance at the Sanremo festival last night, she spent the night in Monte Carlo and was up bright and early to catch the plane from Cote D’Azure airport to Orly Paris. She spent some time in the Sers Hotel in Paris having lunch with her team. Then after a brief rest she had her hair and makeup done and changed into her current favourite dress: a mid length silver sparkly number covered in bugle beads. She wore two simple Swarovski crystal crucifixes around her neck and black Chanel shoes.

Once she was fully dressed for her performance, she was driven to the Vivement Dimanche studios where she performed - by popular demand - I Dreamed A Dream to a standing ovation. One of Susans team listened from the sound gallery where at least two burly sound technicians were wiping away a tear! Francois, one of the audience commented, ‘I travelled all the way from Pons to be here today. I would travel miles just to hear that exceptional voice. That it was just one song does not matter - one song is one memory that I will treasure.’

Susan sped off to catch the last Eurostar back to Kings Cross - she is currently eating a risotto dinner on the train with her manager and niece and hopes to catch a few winks before disembarking at Kings Cross tonight. She says of this trip, ‘Who would have thought this - we have been in four countries in just 24 hours: Italy, Monaco, France and England!’ She will stay overnight in London where she will be filming for her Japanese record label tomorrow.

Vivement Dimanche does not yet have a confirmed transmission date but we’ll keep you posted.

Sanremo - Italy

Susan has just stepped off the stage at Sanremo to a standing ovation! She sang her signature song, ‘I Dreamed A Dream,’ at the 60th anniversary of the renowned Italian festival.

During her rehearsal this afternoon, Susan received an ovation from the orchestra as well as the attendant festival staff. One onlooker called Bruno commented, “We have been waiting so long for Susan to come to Italy. She does not disappoint. She is a very special lady, an inspiration.”

After rehearsal, Susan took some time back at the Royal Hotel on the sea front to rest, eat dinner and have her hair and makeup done. She changed into her black sparkly gown and jumped into the waiting car and sped to the Teatro Ariston which hosts the festival each year.

Dressing room details: a small room to the side of the stage. The rider: some ham sandwiches, some paste - sweet cakes, coffee, tea, and water.

Susan took to stage at 22.25. After the rendition of ‘Dream’ the host asked Susan a few questions, namely how it felt to be in Italy and how it was to live her dream. It was her answer to this last question which raised the roof. In essence she answered that dreams have no expiry date and she just wanted her dream to continue. She was then presented with a bouquet of flowers before leaving the stage.

She is now on her way to a secret hotel in Monte Carlo with a bunch of flowers, a bottle of water and high spirits!

At present there are no plans for a tour. Susan’s management have asked us to relay this to fans and are concerned that this sort of misinformation can lead to unscrupulous vendors setting up ticket scams.

Fans are advised not to purchase/place deposits for tickets if they are offered..

There is no tour planned at present.

Here is Susan’s recent interview for the CBS Sunday Morning show broadcast in the US on February 14th.

As fans will know, Susan has often said when asked about her cat, ‘Pebbles is very well and being looked after by a lovely lady in London’ We are, therefore delighted to confirm that, contrary to recent press reports, Pebbles has not been abandoned by Susan! Pebbles is still very happy in her temporary lodgings and continues to be an important part of Susan’s life.

Susan made the decision for Pebbles to stay with a friend in East London because of the many international trips she takes. Her first thought was for Pebble’s well being. She wanted Pebbles, an elderly cat, to have a warm, safe environment instead of the upheaval of going in and out of a cattery. The friend she chose - who wishes to remain anonymous - is an elderly lady with years of experience as a cat lover.

Susan makes regular trips to visit Pebbles when she is in London, it is always a wonderful reunion and whilst Susan is travelling so frequently, she is happy that Pebbles is content, loved and well looked after.

Last Sunday Susan travelled by car from Blackburn to Loch Lomond to film at The Cameron House Hotel on the loch. Susan has filmed there before - remember the scenes of the sea plane landing in the I Dreamed A Dream TV special?

The Cameron is so beautiful and peaceful and is not too far from Susan’s home so it seemed like the perfect place to revisit for a special feature for the CBS Sunday Morning show. The show is aired out of New York and Susan had met their correspondent Mark Phillips in the very early stages of her career. It was a very nice reunion. Mark and Susan were filmed in the cosy library at The Cameron and after strolled together chatting through the hotel’s beautiful loch-side grounds. We will keep you posted as to when the show airs and provide links.

On Wednesday Susan will be going to Spain to perform I Dreamed A Dream on Dancing With The Stars. She flies out to Madrid in the morning, she will travel directly to the TV studio for rehearsals and will perform later in the evening. The following day she will pre record the Ana Rosa show - for those who aren’t familiar with this show, it is similar to the Oprah Winfrey show in America. As this is the first time Susan will have visited Spain, she is really looking forward to sampling some spanish food and warm hospitality.

Last week Susan flew into London and stayed in a hotel in Kensington near her record label offices. After a bit of business she spent the afternoon shopping in Kensington High Street and just enjoying being in London.

The following morning she took a plane from Heathrow to Copenhagen where she appeared that evening at a charity gala at the Tivoli Concert Hall. She headlined the Danmark Indsamling Show and performed I Dreamed A Dream to a standing ovation.

Susan said, “This was probably the largest concert hall audience I have ever performed to and it was a wonderful experience, a very warm reception”.

After her triumphant stage debut in Denmark, Susan and her team went out for an Italian meal to celebrate.

The next morning Susan awoke to find that a foot of snow had been dumped overnight.

“It felt like I was back in Scotland again! We have had so much snow there, and when I woke up in Copenhagen and looked out of my window it looked like Christmas again!”

Fortunately, the snow ploughs were already in action and Susan and her team made it to the airport. After a short delay they were on their way back home.

It had been a successful trip and Susan really enjoyed her first visit to a Scandinavian country.

“It was beautiful there, “ she commented, “I would love to go back –especially in the summer. I imagine it is even more beautiful.”

On Wednesday 3rd February, Susan attended the video shoot for the Helping Haiti - Everybody hurts single.

We recently received some pictures from Susan Boyle fan Marcia Kennon. Marcia was in attendance during Susan’s NBC Today Show performance last November in New York City. We asked Marcia to share her recollections of her trip to New York. You can see Marcia’s pictures here

What a wonderful two days in NYC to see Susan perform on the TODAY Show. The evening before was experienced by 80 devoted fans wearing red and one Scottish gentleman wearing traditional Scottish attire. He had grown up with Susan’s brothers and was there to surprise her with his visit to see her perform. We had dinner at the St. Andrews Scottish Restaurant that evening.

Monday morning many fans made their way to Rockefeller Plaza to see Susan perform. Before dawn Susan appeared on stage for a warm up. It delighted the audience to hear her sing the three songs she would do again for us. When we saw Susan again, she was wearing her red scarf matching those of her fans. Her fans were ecstatic as she sang the songs again. It was a wonderful experience and performance.

Susan and fans moved on to the Rock Center Cafe. As soon as most were finished eating, fan Carol Rand began the presentation of the quilt and read a story to Susan. Susan was so overwhelmed she was brought to tears. The quilt represented women throughout the world who stitched a square for the quilt. Even Pebbles received a small quilt. Then Hugh Whelan. Scottish gentleman stepped forward to greet Susan. It was an emotional moment for both. We ended with a group picture. Although, walking back to the cafe, I was escorted by the big bodyguard to walk with Susan. She even put her arm around me. What a way to end a spectacular weekend.
